groupthink 101 and remembering the space shuttle

Screenshot: On this the 25th anniversary of the space shuttle explosion, many visceral recollections get made. In academia and industry however, the residual value in recall has been less knowing what happened in the sky, and more knowing what happened on the ground in the NASA meetings leading up to the decision to launch–a launch that was repeatedly and vigorously opposed, but which proceeded anyway. The pre launch transcripts have been studied in Organizational Behavior classes at top business schools where they have been featured as Exhibit A for the phenomenon of groupthink.
